Success is measured. Pressure is felt.
School, college and university environments are increasingly demanding. Alongside academic expectations, young people are navigating exam pressure, friendships, identity, decision making, and uncertainty about the future.
Education rightly focuses on attainment. But many students are left without the tools to manage the psychological and emotional demands that come with it.
This can show up as:
- Rising anxiety and stress around exams and performance
- Difficulty managing friendships and social pressures
- Low confidence in decision making about the future
- Emotional overload impacting learning and wellbeing
Supporting young people today requires more than delivering content. It requires helping them understand pressure, build self awareness, and develop the skills to navigate both school and life beyond it.

I have delivered lectures at Loughborough University London on the MSc in Sports Business and Leadership, contributing across multiple modules.
This includes:
- Designing and delivering a lecture on Creating a Psychologically Safe Environment in Sport, linking research with applied practice

PHD Research
Performance thrives when the right support is in place
My ongoing PhD explores the role of secure bases in elite sport, the people, relationships, and environments that provide stability, challenge, and opportunity for growth, and how they shape wellbeing and performance, particularly during periods of transition.
Career transitions in elite sport, whether planned or enforced, are among the most psychologically demanding phases of an athlete’s life. Challenges also emerge throughout a sporting career when uncertainty, injury, or change is constant.
This research examines how having secure bases help athletes navigate these moments, supporting both wellbeing and performance. The aim is to move beyond simply coping, and inform better structures of support so individuals can adapt, grow, and thrive.
While grounded in elite sport, the principles of psychological safety, relational security, and adaptive resilience are relevant across education, leadership, and other high-pressure environments.
